Lessons of Chaos

You may remember the "thought provoking" presentation that I talked about after the Library Days 2007 Seminar that I attended earlier this year.

Here's the link to Stevan Kalmon's Lessons of Chaos that he presented at that seminar.

Life begins when exactly?

This is one of the teacher blogs I frequent...
Cool Cat Teacher Blog: The moral obligation to prepare students for the outside!

There are some interesting thoughts going on here and I feel this way every day; however, maybe not as frantically as the author, but still...

I tend to think that at Middle School level we don't have as urgent of a need to feel this way as high school's may have. I guess that's because we are preparing students for the next immediate step which is high school, not adult life per se.

This goes back to my thought about job descriptions... What is the job of our students? What is the job description of high school (next step)? What is the job description for college and adult life? What is the job description for life?

Heavy? yeah. But by asking these questions maybe we come back to realizing the correct answer to the first question - are we preparing our students for the outside? I don't want to try to answer this in some succinct, neat response... To me it's an ongoing discussion about a moving target and that's what this blog is all about.
